Manniram’s brilliance sets up easy victory for Aurora Knightriders over Affiance

A superb 153 (12×6),(10×4) by right handed opener Anand Manniram highlighted the first round of the South Essequibo Cricket Committee Invitational T/20 Knockout Cricket Competition played last Sunday at various grounds across the coast.
At the Affiance Cricket Ground and watched by a large and colourful crowd, Aurora Knightriders won the toss and decided to take first strike. Manniram and fellow opener Deoraj Dindyal were very watchful in their 63 runs partnership. However, when Dindyal (16) was LBW to off spinner D. Narine, Garfield Phillips (36 not out) and Manniram then combined to put Affiance on the back foot with an exciting unbeaten 156 runs second wicket partnership much to the delight of a group of girls dancing to some hot chutney music emanating from a nearby house. D. Narine was the only successful bowler for Affiance with 1-28.
Set a daunting target of 220, Affiance were bundled out for a paltry 65 with only Narine (19) and A. Zaman (16) getting into double figures.
Bowling for the Knightriders , Man of the Match Manniram grabbed 4-8, Dindyal 3-28 and debutant teenage pacer Imtiaz Ally, 2-8.
Meanwhile, at the Golden Fleece Cricket Ground, Invader Masters got the better of Rising Stars. Batting first, Masters made 151-8 off their allotted overs. Roy Rampersaud stroked 37 (3×4) (2×6) and Darmindra Lakhan 39 not out (4×4) (3×6). Bowling for Rising Stars, Otis Roberts claimed 2-12, Ricardo Peters 3-21, while there was a wicket apiece for R. Narine and C. Latchman. In reply, Rising Stars got off to a flying start and after 11 overs were 96-2. But the introduction of left arm spinner Thomas Gurdeen orchestrated a collapse. Skipper Ricardo Peters stroked a well composed 48 (4×4), Rohit Latchman 23 (1×4)(1×6), while Kayman Latchman made 22 (2×4)(1×6). Bowling for Masters, Gurdeen snared 3-36, R. Bishop 2-26 and B. Seepersaud 2-21.
At the Imam Bacchus Cricket Ground in game one, Bacchus Sport Club defeated Golden Fleece in a last over thriller. Golden Fleece batted first and posted 98-7 in a game which was reduced to 15 overs. P. Singh snared 2-14. In reply, the home team reached their target in the final over. Neelan Codogan made 23.
In game two, Jaguars overcame Hibernia Sport club by 76 runs. Batting first, Jaguars made 175 with Feizal Mohamed stroking 65 and Javid Ally 54. Hibernia in reply could only muster 99 all out with R. Serran putting up a fight with 31. Matthew Pellew claimed 2-12 for the Jaguars.
Over at the Reliance Cricket Ground, Young Warriors sent Reliance Hustlers packing by 7 wickets in game one. In the afternoon fixture, Crown 11 got the better of Reliance Masters.
The competition continues this weekend with Aurora Knightriders squaring off with Invader Masters at the majestic Imam Bacchus Ground, while at the Reliance Cricket Ground, Young Achievers will face Jaguars and Cotton Field will come up against Jaguars Over-40.
