– wounded suspect on the run
A seven year feud between two ex-convicts has left one of them dead and the other wounded and on the run, following a brawl at Buxton East Coast Demerara.
Dead is thirty-four-year-old Leon Delph, a vendor of Lot 182 Quamina Street, Georgetown.
The suspect who allegedly did the stabbing is a 30-year-old resident known as ‘Junior’ of Buxton.
He is also said to have been seriously wounded during the altercation.
Police said that the killing stemmed for a grievance which occurred some seven years ago while Delph and the suspect were incarcerated.
It was reported that at around 07:00 hrs yesterday morning, the suspect saw Delph sitting inside a minibus at Buxton Line Top and he approached him.
The suspect then took a knife from his waist and stabbed Delph in the region of the neck and ran away.
This newspaper understands that despite being stabbed, Delph armed himself with a broken bottle and a knife.
He then pursued the suspect and allegedly inflicted several wounds on him before collapsing.
Public spirited persons rushed Delph the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His reputed wife stated that she was at work when she received a phone call stating that Delph had been stabbed and was at the GPHC.
She added that when she rushed to the hospital, she saw his body on a stretcher. A friend who was present told her that Delph was with some of his friends at the J’ouvert Party in Buxton.
He added that after the party finished, they were seated in a bus to come to town, when Delph exited the vehicle to purchase something.
It was then that the suspect saw him and went up to him and said “You remember me?” before stabbing him in the region of the neck.
The woman added that she did not known if Delph was ever in prison, and disclosed that she met him seven years ago.
She said that the only incident that she can recall of was in 2011 when Delph told her that he and the suspect had a misunderstanding. “It was Christmas Eve night and he came home and told me that he and a guy had a scuffle and he pushed the guy to the ground and the guy said that he was going to murder him.”
