Zamin Hamid proudly displays his tokens in the presence of Mukesh Appiah left and Matthew Appiah right
Fyrish Second Division cricketer, 73 year old Zamin Hamid, was recently honored by the Appiah family for his contribution to the development of the game as a player and administrator and his role in community development.
He is also the eldest active player in the County of Berbice. He participated in the inaugural Ramnarine Appiah Memorial Cricket Competition and was one of the outstanding bowlers. He also participates in New Building Society Limited and Raffik and Sons Second Division Cricket Competitions and every other tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board.
At a simple ceremony held recently, Mukesh Appiah presented a beautiful plaque to Hamid with his photograph engraved, medals, trophies and a button. The recipient expressed gratitude to the Appiah family for recognising his contribution to society in general and promised that he will continue to help with the development of the game in the county. Appiah praised Hamid for staying healthy at that age to the extent he can still play the game. He urged the youngsters around to emulate the attitude and commitment of this senior citizen.
Other senior citizens honored were the oldest living resident in the area, 97 year old Gulcharran Kandie, Bharrat Budhram, Partab Mangal and Nelson Crandon.
