Graham double hands Den Amstel 2-1 victory; GDF overcome Pourderoyen

Gavin Graham netted twice in the first half to give Den Amstel a 2-1 victory over Indigenous All Stars, while the Guyana Defence Force defeated Pourderoyen 1-0 when the Guyana Football Federation-Corona Super 16 Year End Classic continued yesterday at Den Amstel.

Peter Parks (No18) of Indigenous All Stars provided much resistance for his opponents defence.

Graham put his team ahead in the 3rd minute when he collected a pass inside the area and sent his left-foot shot into the roof of the net much to the delight of the home fans. The Indigenous All Stars took some time to get their momentum going, but managed to find the equaliser in the 12th minute.
A chip from Peter Parks hit the cross bar, but when the ball subsequently rebounded into play Indigenous All Stars were awarded a penalty after the referee ruled that one of Den Amstel players handled the ball inside the box. Parks initial shot was saved but he made no mistake in tapping home the rebound.
Parks looked dangerous and continued to pose a threat to the home side’s defence as the Indigenous All Stars matched and at times out-paced their opponents.
Urged on the by their fans Den Amstel took the lead two minutes from the interval as Graham worked his way into the area before slotting home.
The second half didn’t provide much scoring opportunities as shots went wide of goal, however Den Amstel’s Keswin Fraser wasted a fair opportunity to score following a pass from Mervin Henry on the edge of the area; his weak shot was calmly saved.
Earlier, Delwin Fraser found the back of the net in the 4th minute to hand GDF an early lead against Pourderoyen. Despite some valiant efforts by their opponents GDF managed to hold on for the win.
Play in the tournament continues on Wednesday at the Tucville ground in the City with a double header from 18:00hrs. Western Tigers FC take on Grove Hi-Tec in the opening contest, while at 20:30hrs, Fruta Conquerors FC tackle Ann’s Grove FC in the nightcap.
