Dear Editor,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Nbikki Harding, I am thirteen years old, I am in Form Three at St Mary’s Secondary School. I want to address my fellow African Guyanese because I feel that we have lost our ownership, our identity and even our culture. We are not standing up and speaking out enough. This tells a lot.
The sunken slave ship which claimed the lives of 664 Africans, men, women and children was laden with human cargo. A similar situation is experienced every day. It is now called Human Trafficking. Why do I have to every day look at news or open a newspaper and see young Africans both girls and boys being made slaves, even if mentally.
Do the adults of this world or the politicians of this day and age really care? You say you love us, so why do you want to commit us to modern day slavery, giving us tablets and vaccines that can harm us. Two of my school mates had after effects when they took the filaria tablets and had to be treated.
I want to become a doctor when I finally leave school and have children of my own, but I will not be able to do so if I take the Gardasil vaccine.
Nbikki Harding
St Mary’s High School
Editor’s Note: The authorities have long confirmed that the vaccination to guard against cervical cancer –Gardasil—is safe. It has killed no one. The filarial tablets may have side effects but the vast majority who took them, including yours truly, suffered none.

By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – Haiti’s plight must not be forgotten because it is no longer a regular feature of international headlines. The suffering has not diminished. (Kaieteur News) – It is why I like these swashbucklers operating out of Spring, Texas. They know how to keep others on their toes, and to lull their partners in host counties to sleep.
