The Guyana Association of Municipalities (GAM) has for the first time received an invitation to participate in the Commonwealth Local Government Conference. The conference will be hosted by the Commonwealth Local Government Federation (CLGF) from November 21-24, 2017 in Valletta, Malta.
Mayor of Georgetown, Her Worship Patricia Chase-Green was selected to represent Guyana at the conference. This decision was made on October 12, last, at a GAM Executive Meeting.
Also, Carwyn Holland (Mayor of Linden) was invited to represent the Caribbean by the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (CALGA). Ms Sherry Jerrick, Assistant Town Clerk of Georgetown and Technical Officer of GAM, will be accompanying the Mayors to the conference.
The Commonwealth Local Government Conference 2017 will be held under the theme “Fit for the Future: Resources and capacity for effective Local Government”.
The aim of the conference is to improve the performance of local government in the Commonwealth through various strategies, and also to improve governance, service delivery and ensuring that local government resources meet future demands. The speakers for the anticipated event include the Hon Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Joseph Muscat and Commonwealth Secretary General Rt. Honorable Baroness Patricia Scotland Q.C, while G.A.M. President Mayor Holland will be a feature presenter.
