Dear Editor,
Over the last few days the plethora of headlines emanating from and dealing with the goings-on at City Hall has made for interesting, if not at times amusing reading.
Stories tell of the 360 degree right turn by the Town Clerk to rescind the termination of the two city constables at the centre of the juvenile abuse case to putting them on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the internal investigation.
In this fiasco the Mayor it is reported is laying the blame squarely at the feet of the Town Clerk and Chief Constable. The Mayor should be reminded the buck stops with her.
Then of course is the joke of the year where the Mayor it is reported, is prepared to beg, if need be, for the return of the dismissed garbage contractors, since as she claims ‘garbage is killing me’. What a confession!! With that it seems plans are in the making for the likely return of the two main solid waste contractors in time for the Season.
Then workers recently staged a protest for their October salaries which saw the Deputy Mayor (acting Mayor at the time) exercising his authority to ease a situation. Now strike action is imminent over still unpaid salaries to some workers.
What a muddle City Hall has found itself. At the core of these issues are poor decisions, poor management and of course no money. Where would it end for City Hall?
Regards
Shamshun Mohamed
