A fisherman was yesterday order to post $60,000 bail after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman on a simple larceny charge.
Twenty-nine-year-old Arishad Ali, of Mon Repos, East Cost Demerara, denied the charge which alleged that on August 31, last, at Regent and Alexander Streets he stole from Nakita Cameron Cole one handbag , one purse value and $7,000 in cash.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant.
Facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the day in question the virtual complainant was sitting in her vehicle which was stopped in traffic due to the long line of traffic at Regent and Alexander Streets.
The court heard that the virtual complainant was in possession of her handbag which was in the backseat of her vehicle.
The Prosecutor told the court that the defendant approached from behind the victim’s vehicle and snatched the bag that was in the back seat and made good his escape on foot.
The court heard that later on that said day the defendant was spotted by the victim and he was arrested and taken to the station where he was told of the offence to which he denied.
Prosecutor Singh added that a search was conducted on Ali and the articles mention in the charge was not discovered in his possession.
