Dear Editor,
President David Granger, who has been President of Guyana for over two years, should consider cutting the Presidential Salary to minimum wage. When you think about it, the President is asking many Guyanese to live on minimum wage so he would be sending the right message by cutting the Presidential Salary to minimum wage or by substantially reducing it. It demonstrates that he too is prepared to go through the struggles of the ordinary man and woman.
I understand that being President on minimum wage is not the same as those who live on minimum wage as there are other benefits to being President and President Granger already have the benefits of over two years Presidential Salary at current rates. Or, perhaps President Granger believes that he needs to be financially rewarded handsomely for his service to Guyanese as one previous President of Guyana did? At least, think about it.
