An opinion piece by Frederick Kissoon in yesterday’s issue of the Kaieteur News has been dubbed by the management of the newspaper as a flight of fancy. The piece contained material that could only have come from Mr. Kissoon’s imagination.
In some cases he denied logic and in others he created his own version of the facts.
He wrote, “The gunmen had extensive connection with Georgetown actors including Ronald Waddell who was buried in the ‘Gulf’ at the back of Buxton where arms are reportedly still hidden.”
Reacting to the contention, Ms Bonita Bone-Harris, Waddell’s wife, was quick to point out that Waddell was cremated at Good Hope and not buried. She said that this is malice on the part of Kissoon who wants to say that weapons are buried in Buxton. “He wants to put Ronald in the same hole.”
He writes that ‘two Cabinet Ministers in the present government had contacts with the gunmen.’ When challenged, he not only failed to name the Cabinet Ministers, but contended that such an accusation was made by Bharrat Jagdeo when the People’s National Congress Reform was in the opposition. Jagdeo never made such a claim.
Another flight of fancy was that ‘Food at a certain cultural organization was cooked in Georgetown for the gunmen and sent to the home of a certain lady in Buxton for distribution.
When challenged again, he said that the organisation was not the African Cultural and Development Association. He could not say which, choosing to suggest that there are many cultural organizations in Guyana and the description could fit anyone and that the newspaper was safe.
A newspaper is the history book of today’s activities. It is also a record of society. We regret that what was published yesterday would end up in the archives and would serve to mislead some researcher. (By Editor)
