A contract totalling over $300M was awarded to several contractors for the procurement of poles and timber products to be used in various housing schemes across Guyana.
This was disclosed by the State Minister Joseph Harmon, last week during the weekly post-Cabinet Press Briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency, Georgetown.
Harmon said that the poles and timber products will be installed in an aim to provide electricity to the housing developments.
The contract was divided into several parts called “lots”.
Each lot represents a specific location or locations, where the supplies will be installed.

A contract in the sum of $74,035,000 was awarded to Gaico Construction and General Services for the construction of a single-lane roundabout at Timehri, East Bank Demerara.
Also, a $17,149,000 contract was awarded to AAV Raghubeer General Construction for the extension and rehabilitation of the Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) Regional Administrative Building.
Further, for the procurement of vehicles for the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) and the National Anti-Narcotic Agency (NANA), one 30-seater bus, one pick-up, one Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and one motor car, a contract in the sum of $39,244,000 awarded to Massy Industries Guyana Limited.
Finally, a contract in the sum $72,059,000, was awarded to Massy Technologies for the supply and installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and accessories for 24 tower sites.
The procuring entity is the Ministry of Public Telecommunications.
The money for the CCTV cameras and the accessories is being spent from the $314M that was allocated to the E-Governance Project for this year.
