Police Inspector Nolan Burnette was called to testify when the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Gregory Garraway continued on Thursday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’
Courts.
Murder accused Joshua Meredith is currently on remand for the indictable offence which occurred on October 11, 2016.
According to reports, Garraway, 25, of Charlestown, Georgetown, was shot and killed during a robbery, while in the company of his brother outside the Dynasty Sports Club, Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 02:00hrs on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Garraway was at the time crossing Aubrey Barker Road to make a purchase at a shop. A man confronted him and proceeded to relieve him of his gold chain. A scuffle ensued and Garraway was shot in the chest. He then fell to the ground and the gunman made good his escape with the chain.
Garraway was hospitalized after the shooting, but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Inspector Burnette gave testimony in relation to an identification parade murder accused Meredith was placed on while in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The accused is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Stanley Moore who cross-examined the witness after he concluded giving evidence. This preliminary inquiry will continue on May 29 when the final witnesses, Michael Hinds and a policeman, will take to the stand.
In addition, Meredith and Calvin Johnson of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, are on remand for the murder of Paul Rodney. Based on reports, Rodney, 29, was shot dead on November 21, 2016 outside the East Ruimveldt Secondary School. The West Ruimveldt resident was shot seven times about the body during an argument between him and two other men.
