Destiny Ashley Holder, who died last Saturday after her mother allegedly fell asleep while breastfeeding her, succumbed to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), according to a Post Mortem Examination (PM) performed on her remains yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Sudden infant death syndrome is the unexplained death, usually during sleep, of a seemingly healthy baby less than a year old.
The PM was done at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh.
According to information received, the child’s mother, Tanisha George, 18, was breastfeeding her when she, the mother, fell asleep.
When the young mother awoke, she discovered her three-month-old daughter dead.
Holder’s aunt explained that she was at her home when the baby’s grandmother called to inform her that the child had died.
“I wanted to know how she died because I (recently) come here and play with her and she seemed fine. Nothing had happened with her,” the woman explained.
She added that when she disconnected the call; she rushed to the baby’s home where she saw the child wrapped up in a piece of cloth and placed on a chair.
