Feb 08, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
GuySuCo in typical style is releasing selective information to the public. Despite paying a mill-stone management team, G$14.1M/month, the nation does not have the sugar projection for this year although it is February 2017. I learnt that GuySuCo projects 198,458t of sugar for this year. It is divided into 74,172t and 124,286t for first and second crops. I did suggest in one of my letters that a depressed estimate may be forthcoming. Editor, this is the lowest projection ever in recent memory and an embarrassment to the Board of Directors and Govt. What really is this management team doing?
We have moved from a low of 183,615t in 2016 to another low of 198,458t for 2017.This team is convincing everyone that they can deliver poor performances consistently over time. GuySuCo also has a history of not achieving targets which brings into focus whether 198,458t will be delivered at end of 2017. I will not address 2nd crop estimates as it is too early but will examine 1st crop estimate. GuySuCo projects 74,172t for 1st crop 2017 which, incidentally is now scheduled to start in early/mid-February instead of late February after my letter “This decision by GuySuCo boggles the mind”. With the incompetence and track record of poor performances, will GuySuCo achieve 74,172t in 1st crop 2017? I will share with readers some past performances and allow them to make their own deductions. See table below:
It maybe just coincidence, but a current IMC member was CEO of GuySuCo in 2013. Do we have a situation in 2017 where GuySuCo deliberately lowered the target to achieve it or did management facilitate accelerated deterioration of fields and factories in 2015/2016 to justify its “shut-down & sell-out” vision?
