The state of affairs at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) has been called into question by a number of concerned members who said that there has been no Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections at the organisation since 2014.
A letter that was sent recently by some members of the club to the Georgetown Cricket Association, the governing body responsible for cricket in the city, indicated that there has been no AGM or Ordinary General Meeting at the club since April 24, 2014, therefore the term of that executive body expired in 2015. The document stated that no motion was passed for any extended period of the body and as such they are illegal.
Members of the club have expressed concern that there is no visible executive committee running the affairs of the club since executive meetings have not been held in excess of a year.
According to members of the club the financial records and membership records are not being presented to the membership and the club’s daily affairs are being carried out by people assuming to be in authority who are in breach of the constitution.
The members of club are calling for the AGM and elections as required by the constitution since there is no court order that prohibits this from being done as is being portrayed by certain members of the club as the reason for not holding AGM and elections.
DCC is one of leading clubs in Guyana and has produced players such as Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, Andrew Lyght, Roy Fredericks, Linden Joseph, Roger Harper, Mark Harper, Travis Dowlin and Philbert Blair.
