The Rose Hall Town Anniversary and Development Organization (RHTADO) in collaboration with Ministry of Social Cohesion will stage the first ever Corentyne Festival of Sports, exhibition and fun day. The event, which is expected to be a mega affair, will be staged on Saturday February 18th at the Rose Hall Town Community Center Ground Area H, Corentyne Berbice.
According to the RHTADO the event is about promoting Social Cohesion in communities in Guyana under the theme…. “Embracing the future Social Cohesion a must”.
The aim and objective of this event, is to ensure everyone is aware of the concept of Social Cohesion using sports and other activities and the importance of seeing ourselves as Guyanese. In accordance of the organisation’s motto, “Success comes through togetherness” and the theme of the activity, “embracing the future social cohesion a must”, there will be an opening ceremony where the honourable Minister of Social Cohesion Dr. George Norton will declare the event open.
According to PRO of the RHTADO, Andrew Griffith, the organisation met with Social Cohesion Officer for Region 6, Miss Shurla Scott and held discussions on organising and promoting the event, which they intend to make an annual affair.
We also intend to have lectures at secondary schools on cohesion. Griffith said it is a wonderful idea to bring people together in the best interest of unity and development. He mentioned that over the years the RHTADO has been organising and promoting a number of activities that showed togetherness and Social Cohesion. He said that over the years the organisation has surmounted a number of hurdles in their effort to get the message of togetherness and Social Cohesion out in according to their motto.
A number of organisations from throughout Berbice and other parts of Guyana are already on board for the big event.
There will be a variety of games including traditional and ring games, cartoon characters, Tassa and African drums, music, food booths among other activities. (Samuel Whyte)
