A security guard was placed on $70,000 bail after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to the charge of threatening behaviour, on Thursday.
It is alleged that Renato Gamell, on November 11, last, at 111 Mile Mahdia, Potaro, used threatening behaviour towards Anika Tate. The 27-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the Magistrate.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers stated that the defendant is a security guard and is licensed to carry a firearm.
Prosecutor Jeffers told the court that the defendant and Tate shared a relationship and on the day in question they had an argument and he pointed his gun at her head.
The matter was reported to the Mahdia Police Station and since the incident the police have seized the firearm and his license. Jeffers asked that the defendant be placed on a bond to keep the peace.
Magistrate Ann McLennan warned the defendant to stay away from the Tate. She also told him that he is not to be in possession of a firearm or license until the determination of the trial.
The matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court and he will make his next court appearance on January 17, 2017.
