A porter accused of escaping from the Alberttown Police Station and carting off a quantity of hair and cosmetic products after breaking into a stall at Merriman Mall, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison, after the Police Prosecutor pointed out he has no fixed place of abode.
The 39-year-old man, Aneri Deokie, who gave his address as Lodge Housing Scheme, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on October 7, while being confined at the aforementioned Police Station on an indictable charge for break and enter and larceny; to prevent lawful detention, he escaped from the said lawful custody.
It was also alleged that between October 3 and 4 at Merriman Mall, he broke into the stall of Shondel Sealey and stole hair and cosmetic supplies.
The unrepresented accused also denied this charge.
When asked by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan if he had any objections to bail, Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers replied in the affirmative citing that the defendant is a flight risk. According to Jeffers, the defendant failed to provide police with an address at the time of his arrest. Jeffers stated that the defendant told investigators he lives nowhere. Prosecutor Jeffers cited the fact that Deokie only provided an address at his court appearance.
The case files in these matters are still incomplete.
Deokie was instructed to return to court on November 22.
