Twenty-two year old Dexter Forde of West Ruimveldt appeared yesterday before Magistrate Leslie Benjamin to answer to a charge of larceny from the person.
It is alleged that on November 7 at Albert and Croal Streets, Georgetown, he robbed Carlotta Nurse of one cellular phone valued $14,000 and $5,000 in cash.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh told the court that on the day in question the Virtual Complainant (VC) was walking along Croal Street when Forde rode up beside her on a bicycle and snatched her bag. He then quickly pedalled away.
The VC raised an alarm and Forde was captured by public-spirited persons. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
He was placed on $55,000 bail, and will make his next court appearance on November 21.
