Has time become the enemy of the Granger Govt.?

Dear Editor,
Irrespective of whether you voted for the present Granger Government or not, the time has come for us to be frank, honest and objective in holding our elected representatives on both sides of the floor accountable for the current state of affairs in this country. It does us absolutely no good if we stay passive and silent either out of fear of reprisal or party loyalty when confronted with overwhelming evidence of a tanking economy and an emerging security crisis.
Both businesses and citizenry are being brutalised, literally, since the ascension of the Granger Government to power. While I do not necessarily blame the President for these undesirable experiences, it is, however, his government that is in charge with direct influence over many of these issues. People have a certain level of expectation in them, to get things fixed or at the least not make it worse; they have succeeded in the latter. Understandably, and in fairness to this government and with any new government, it is reasonable to expect them to undergo some degree of structural and administrative changes in the first couple of years. And possibly first term in office that will reflect a particular ideology before a broader societal and economic reform can take place and benefit its citizens. But our state of affairs is much more urgent, in that, we do not possess the confidence of time on our side to facilitate such endeavours.
The general mood of the society is one of anxiety, fear, and frustration, and a bizarre phenomenon seems to be in operation, one that I cannot readily identify or theorise on as yet. But I am convinced that it is farthest from themes of development, progress, change or even a good or better life. The government has lost a considerable amount confidence and popularity that it came into office with and no measure of selective comparative analysis by sections of the media and even ministers in the government will change the reality of uneasiness and frustration that people are experiencing. However, what it has achieved is a very petty, barefaced act of justifying colossal ineptitude, incompetence and corruption. For a coalition of political parties who had campaigned on the slogan of “It is time”, it is more than ironic now that time has become the enemy of the Granger administration. John Persaud.
