Even as police have arrested a second man in connection with the shooting death of an East Canje livestock farmer last week Tuesday, a third man is being sought.
On September 27, last, the lifeless body of 38-year-old, Ramnarine Itwaru, called ‘Bill’, of Lot 84 Gangaram, Settlement, East Canje was discovered with four bullet wounds on Ring Road, a Guysuco dam in the Settlement.
Four spent .38 shells and one live round were found at the scene.
The livestock farmer reportedly left his home around 01:00 pm to cut grass for his animals in the said area. However around 15:30hrs relatives received reports that he was lying on the access dam in the cane field cultivation. Upon venturing to the area, the man’s body was found face down with his bag still slung over his shoulder. His motorcycle was parked upright nearby which suggested that he had stopped to talk to the person and was shot by someone whom he knew.
One of the men in custody is a prime suspect who also hails from the same village had threatened the livestock farmer following a dispute over land and cattle. Itwaru had developed a piece of land sold to him by his father- in- law and had increased his stocks. He had stopped persons from using the area after he began losing a number of his animals. The man had threatened to “finish him off” after a dispute. Itwaru had immediately upon returning home informed his wife, brothers and other relatives that he was threatened with death by the perpetrator and if anything should happen to him who would be the likely suspect.
Upon his execution, armed with the information provided by Itwaru, his wife notified the police. The police acting on the information quickly arrested the perpetrator and the fisherman who made the discovery.
However the fisherman was later released. They have subsequently arrested another livestock farmer from in the area.
The second suspect has since been taken to Georgetown where the first suspect was taken to. Residents previously disclosed that gunshots were heard in the village sometime between 02:00 pm and 03:00 pm.
The man leaves to mourn his wife and 11 year old son and other relatives.
