Dear Editor;
On Tuesday August 2, 2016, I was sent to burn a bed plate in the boiling house.
Whilst burning, the factory manager came to me and I told him about the job. He then called the foreman and spoke to him, after which the foreman took the job into the workshop. I took an inch off the bedplate.
On Thursday they asked another welder to complete the job from 7am to 3pm and leave me to work from 7am to 4pm.
Since I am now in the boiling house, I expect to work the same hours as the other boiling house welders. The assistant factory manager and Estate manager spoke to Mr. Kissoon who is the mechanical engineer. Still there has not been any change. I believe that malice is the issue.
One day myself and another woman, heard Mr. Kissoon saying things that Guyanese should not utter. I raised the issue so many times that Kissoon seems to have it out for me.
Further Mr. Editor, despite some workers are upset about the factory closing, they are themselves causing the factory to further deteriorate. They had stopped a compressor to do servicing. When they were now ready to assemble it, the engineer, Mr. Dhanraj said the shaft has swollen.
So they grind the shaft with an angle grinder and the shaft cut loose, the bearing therefore cannot hold on. It has been taken to the old sugar stores. Further, there is a 2.5 turbine in the power house; one with a flexible hose that was damaged.
They bought a hose and paid to fit on two flanges on the two ends. They later took off the flanges and replaced them with pipe. These two examples are a clear case of wasting money. Nobody is being held accountable.
