Regional Executive Officer, Dr. Veersammy Ramayya allegedly walked off his job last Friday.
This information was revealed to the media by Region Six Vice Chairman Dennis Deroop at a press brief held in the office of the Regional Chairman, Vryman’s, Erven, New Amsterdam, yesterday.
The Vice Chairman at a Press Briefing revealed that there was no formal letter issued by the Ministry of Communities approving leave for the REO. “The REO has left, he walked off the job, I would say”.
The Vice- Chairman said that to his knowledge, Ramayya has left the country. He mentioned that the REO had not officially informed him if he applied for leave or whether he will be going on leave.
He however, stated, that after Ramayya, did not show up for work in the new week, he started to inquire.
“The Deputy Regional Executive Officer told me that Ramayya said he is taking leave”, Deroop added. “Leave wasn’t officially approved by the Ministry for him. I would assume he just walked off the job”.
The Vice Chairman stressed, that due to the REO’s absence, some of the Region’s issues have been left unresolved. “The Region has suffered a very big set back now”, Deroop said.
He further stated, that some time back, the REO had indicated to the Regional Chairman, Mr. David Armogan that he was thinking about resigning, since according to him, he was not coping with the responsibilities of being the REO.
Deroop said that as a result of the absence of the REO a number of persons including nurses cannot be paid. He said that those nurses and sweeper cleaners are on contracts and their contracts have ended and have to be signed for them to return to work and be paid.
Deroop also stated that more than 300 cheques had to be returned to the Sub Treasury because they were stale-dated. Apart from the nurses and sweeper cleaners a number of small suppliers have not been paid because the REO is not signing the cheques on time. Money was received from the NDIA to pay operators, but they too have not been paid.
Deroop used the opportunity to apologize to the nurses, sweeper cleaners and others affected at this moment. He assured that the Region is working assiduously to remedy the situation.
