Teams will spring into action on Saturday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground as they hunt quarterfinal places in the Mayor’s Cup football championship. A triple header card has been set for the city venue starting from 5:00pm and the proceedings for the evening have been sponsored by the Sparta Family, managers of the Sparta Boss football team.
Saturday’s contests will open at 5:00pm with Camptown facing Eagles of Linden in what should be a keenly contested curtain raiser. Uitvlugt challenge Police in the next match from 7:00pm, while Rhythm Squad battle Den Amstel at 9:00pm in the night cap in a promised entertaining encounter. Anthony Sancho and Amos Ramsey are two of the key players on show during the night as players are expected to lay it all out on the pitch as they look to propel their team to championship honours and a share of the cash prizes.
Those triumphant teams who progress into the quarter finals and then the respective semi-finals and grand final, will hope to get their hands on the top prize of $700,000 and a trophy donated by Aruwai Resort. The second place team pockets $300,000 and the Ansa McAl trophy, while the third place team carts off $200,000 and the John Fernandes trophy. The fourth place finishers will receive $100,000 and the Ministry of State trophy. Ricks and Sari has also donated hampers which will go to the winning team, while tournament’s top goal scorer will get a three piece suite compliments of AH&L Kissoon Furniture Store.
Action continues on Monday July11th again at the GFC ground with a double header from 7:00pm. Santos face Beavers in the first game, while Western Tigers tackle Pouderoyen at 9:00pm in the hunt for quarterfinal places.
Top Brandz of Broad and High Streets, distributors of Interstate vehicle batteries, is among the key sponsors on board assisting the tournament. Apart from Aruwai Resort and Top Brandz, among others on board include: Ansa McAl, Minister of State Joe Harmon and his ministry, John Fernandes, Ricks and Sari and AH&L Kissoon.
