Three-time losing finalist of the Digicel Schools Football Championship D C Caesar Fox Secondary (formerly Waramadong) sent an ominous warning to all that this year could mark the first of many titles after registering a 6-0 thumping on Paruima Training Centre on Sunday, at their home ground in Waramadong.
Situated in the Cuyuni / Mazaruni Region, the Waramadong community and its satellite settlements thronged the venue in large numbers to witness the host send Paruima crashing out of the championship via a convincing display.
Reon McNaughton slammed in a hat-trick in the 22nd, 43rd and 57th minutes, while Collyer Daniels supported with a brace in the 41st and 59th and Deon Brown’s 85th strike completed their tally.
The start saw both teams exhibit understandable nervousness, but gradually settled into rhythm with D C Caesar Fox producing some threatening raids, but were thwarted by some excellent defending by the visitors as the game stayed deadlocked at nil-all.
D C Caesar Fox came closest in the opening stages when a thunderous left-footer from Reon McNaughton struck the crossbar and rebounded into play much to the disappointment of their supporters.
However, McNaughton it was stationed on the left flank who delivered the first dagger into Paruima’s when he raced on to a through ball from centre-field deep into the opposition’s half and he weaved past one marker cut inside the penalty area to fire past the goalkeeper’s outstretched hands into the far corner in the 22nd minute of play.
Paruima though did not lie down and surrender and created a few chances, but poor finishing kept them scoreless.
Daniels then got into the act when he received a pass from just outside the box and he made no mistake, placing his effort to the right of the keeper to make it 2-0.
The menacing McNaughton was a constant torment and he netted a second two minutes later, hitting past the advancing keeper from a long ball delivered from inside their half to make it 3-0 at the break and the home fans engaged in rapturous celebrations.
After the resumption there was no reprieve for Paruima as D C Caesar Fox continued their rampage and who it was to increase their lead, but the effervescent McNaughton bubbled up once again to net his third with a well placed side-footed shot after outrunning his marker from a ball played through the centre to make it 4-0.
Two minutes later it became 5-0 when Daniels completed his total with a fierce shot into the roof of the net and everyone knew it would take something of a miracle for Paruima to bounce back.
They continued to play with much effort, but the superior skill and better technical ability of D C Caesar Fox proved too great for them and they conceded another goal five minutes before full time when Brown hit past the goalkeeper stationed on the near post to seal victory.
Before the start of play, fans were treated to a wonderful cultural presentation by young girls of the Waramadong community.
Tournament Co-ordinator Lavern Fraser spoke on behalf of the sponsor.
