Dear Editor,
After taking sometime to digesting that Dale Andrews has suddenly left us, and reading the many tributes being poured out. I have decided it’s time for me to put in my two words. I would begin by plainly stating that Dale Andrews was the man.
He was definitely a very good person and excellent journalist and had all the qualities of being an outstanding journalist. Apart from all the good qualities mentioned before. Dale was also an excellent interpersonal communicator. One of the good qualities that will be missed is that Dale was the man most of the correspondents would readily communicate with and definitely his personality and camaraderie would surely be missed.
Having worked with him from a distance for almost all the time he was at Kaieteur news it was there to see that he had the ability to listen and get you to go the extra distance. He really had a penchant for the job.
Dale was just one of the best in the business. Not only in terms of gathering the news , his ability to infiltrating people, the police and other was good. His ability to relate to his peers both in the head office and the correspondents was excellent.
He would usually mention to me, that all the correspondents would usually try to communicate with him. It was a natural thing that when you call in you ask for Dale or when there is something to be done. He would call. Dale would make sure that your stories are looked at and most likely make the papers.
Known as the “Crime Chief or “Mr. Black Hat” Dale was known by almost every police man who worked in Georgetown or the East Coast and have the ability to cover any story. Dale death came as a big surprise and blow and will be surly missed by Kaieteur News, especially the Correspondents.
I wonder what he meant when he said he will not be around or something to that nature. Dale called me later on Thursday night to cover the piracy story on Friday. I was surprise because that he reportedly was working that later of recent. He said make sure you get the story because you know I would not be around or something to that nature. I know he doesn’t work on Fridays. I did not know he was on some sick leave. I wonder what he meant.
Dale along with Claude David, Mike Baptiste and Adam Harris were some of the best personalities at Kaieteur News and in my view those who made the paper what it is. Most of my family knew Dale, because if I have to get something done at Kaieteur News the instructions would usually be. See Dale, contact Dale, wait for Dale, talk to Dale, ask Dale and the instruction goes on. You bet, as long as it is practically possible it would be done.
Dale Andrews was definitely the man and would surely be missed.
Samuel Whyte
