GASP set to resume fierce competition following anniversary celebrations

of Scrabble Players (GASP) have not benefitted from an absence of some two years due to internal issues that curtailed activities. All this will now be a thing of the past following a concerted effort of those affiliates to resume activities.
The GASP is now observing its 20th anniversary and last Sunday evening the players converged at Herdmanston Lodge, 65 Peter Rose & Anira Streets, Queenstown, to acknowledge GASP’s 20th Anniversary with a fun day. Naturally, the players engaged in several competitive games while discussing plans towards the resumption of activities.
Among those in attendance were national scrabble champion, Abigail McDonald, her predecessor, Fred Collins, Moen Gafoor, Colin Chichester, James Krakowsky, Carlton Murray, Grace Hercules, Yvonne Murray and Ruby Cummings among other players. The Hermanston Lodge will now be the home of scrabble as the GASP has managed to broker a deal with the management of that institution. Before, the players had enjoyed similar patronage from the administrators of the Malteenoes Sports Club. Consequently, the GASP extended gratitude to those officials for accommodating them during their active years.
Meanwhile, Yvonne Murray continues to agitate for the sport’s introduction in the schools and has been in the forefront to initiate a secondary school scrabble programme. She had made remarkable progress towards its realization after conducting orientation sessions among teachers at the Carmel School, Charlestown late last year.
Officials of GASP have lauded such efforts and have committed to embrace them during the new dispensation. Top seed, James Krakowsky, related that the new executives will also examine ways of broadening and popularizing the sport while encouraging the formation of local clubs under the umbrella of GASP that will culminate with a secondary school scrabble competition. The players will also resume the weekly informal get-togethers and frequent scheduling of competitions. Abigail McDonald is currently the national champion.
