A Mahdia taxi driver has admitted to transporting the suspect in the murder of Simone Hackett, as well as the
Cleavaughn Hamilton
victim, to the area at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, where her decomposing corpse was later found.
The taxi driver was detained after his vehicle, with bloodstains and maggots, was found on Friday at Mahdia.
Kaieteur News understands that the driver, who reportedly identified himself as ‘Dexter’, told investigators that he picked up the suspect, as well as Simone Hackett, and took them to Cummings Lodge.
Police were told that after he returned to Mahdia, the driver instructed his girlfriend to wash his car.
Simone Hackett left her home on April 16, allegedly to retrieve a package from a person named “Dexter”.
Her body was later discovered last Tuesday in a Cummings Lodge trench. Her throat was slit and she had sustained three stab wounds to the back of the neck.
Police subsequently detained her reputed husband, Cleavaughn Hamilton, at Mahdia.
He has since been charged with Hackett’s murder.
