…Relates ordeal and history with alleged shooter
The East Bank Demerara man who was allegedly shot by his neighbour two days ago, is calling on the relevant authorities to take his matter seriously since, according to him, it was not the first attempt on his life by his
supposed assailant.
Alvin Mursalin, 39, visited the offices of Kaieteur News yesterday to accuse his neighbour (name provided) of firing multiple shots at him as he was heading home.
Mursalin stated that he was at home on Monday when he realised that school had reopened and he needed to buy exercise books for his seven children. After purchasing the books he used a “popular shortcut” to get home – through “Jimbo Street”.
As he approached the makeshift bridge that connects the two communities -Diamond and Golden Grove — Mursalin said that he got off his bicycle and hoisted it above his shoulder and with the books in his other hand, he proceeded to cross the bridge.
As he crossed, he saw the suspect out of the “side of my eye” and he turned towards the man’s direction and paused for awhile to let him know that he had noticed him. However, paying no further attention to the man, he hopped on to his bike and proceeded on his path to his house.
“When I look back I see he coming from behind and like he was pedalling fast, so I start pedalling fast and all I hear was blam!… So right away I suspect was a gunshot so I duck (crouch) on the bike and blam again, and all I feel was my face get numb and blam again and that was when I get shoot in my foot…If I didn’t stoop (crouch) down, I woulda get shoot in my head,” Mursalin recounted.
Mursalin also recalled that the man had the weapon in a black plastic bag which he used as a glove.
Back in 2013, Mursalin claimed that he was attacked by the same individual and six others, where he received several chops about his body and since then, the two men have been reportedly engaging each other in heated arguments that would usually call for intervention by the police.
Kaieteur News also has record of a Marvin Britton (not the shooter), who had attacked Mursalin in 2013 and had escaped from the Grove Police Station. Britton was subsequently apprehended and was sentenced to six years imprisonment when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly, at the Providence Magistrate’s Court on July 12, 2013.
Mursalin pointed out that Britton’s attack was connected to the 2013 attack; he stated that the shooter had sent Britton to take revenge whilst the case was in court.
“This man clearly want me dead; this is the third time he try to kill me. The last time (alleged 2013 attack) he get off with $100,000 bail and he (the shooter) get restraining order and Britton, get loose (Presidential pardoning) when the new people (A Partnership for National Unity/ Alliance for Change) take over” Mursalin said.
Exhibiting his wounds yesterday, Mursalin’s head showed that the bullet had pierced the skin and the bullet which was lodged inside his scalp was removed. The wound on his right foot indicated that the bullet had pierced the skin on his calf displaying an “entry and exit” wound.
Inquiring for an update on the investigation, Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken, stated yesterday that investigations are ongoing as they are currently pursuing all leads.
He continued that a name of the suspect has been provided and on the day of the shooting, the police found nothing.
Hicken has assured that the suspect will be caught since “he is not someone that can hide from us”.
