Smalta / Ministry of Public Health Girls Pee Wee Schools Football champions Stella Maris is anticipated to receive a stern test when they face nemesis St. Stephen’s in the final of this year’s competition set for Saturday, at the
Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
The reigning title holders have not looked at their best in this year’s event, but are known to be a tenacious bunch that usually fights until the end. Just like last year, they will be looking to the inspirational Ludesha Reynolds to lead their quest to successfully retain the crown.
In last week’s action, they scraped past West Ruimveldt 4-3 on penalty kicks, before Reynolds stunning free kick accounted for the impressive North Ruimveldt exit. Reynolds, however, will have to get more support from other players if they are to sneak past the consistent St. Stephen’s side that no doubt will be aiming to exact revenge for last year’s loss.
St. Stephen’s have looked solid all tournament and it came as no surprise that they’ve made it so far. Kizieya Phillips has been the marquee player in their line-up and much will be expected from her once again.
They beat a tough South Ruimveldt team on penalty kicks in their semi-final clash and before that had taken care of Tucville 2-1 which shows that they too are a resilient squad that can come through tough encounters.
It sure promises to be entertaining and fans are being urged to come out and see the young lasses display their individual and collective skills. The competition is being organised by Petra Organisation with support from other sponsors such as Sterling Products under its Igloo brand and the National Sports Commission.
