Businessman and cyclist Samuel Mootoo (left) presents the uniforms to founder and coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts in the presence of some young cyclists.
The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) was recently the recipient of a donation, compliments of former cyclist and businessman Samuel Mootoo.
Mootoo, who still rides and has a business establishment at Main and St John Streets in New Amsterdam, recently donated a set of riding uniforms, inclusive of T-shirts and pants to the FACC.
Recently the club recruited a number of young and budding cyclists to its fold. The cyclists who are mostly from the Corentyne area are all attending school and are expected to feature prominently in the upcoming school athletics and cycling championships.
Most of the uniforms will be presented to the young cyclists.
The donation was made to club founder and coach Randolph Roberts at a simple ceremony at the businessman’s office in New Amsterdam.
According to Mootoo he recognized the excellent work Roberts has been putting in on a daily basis in helping the young riders fulfilling their dreams. He said as a cyclist himself and a businessman he recognized that it is costly to take part in the sport, thus the decision to come on board and assist. He decided to throw his support behind the youngsters so as to give them the necessary support at the beginning. He also used the opportunity to call on other businessmen to come forward and assist the club.
Roberts stated that the uniforms will go a far way in assisting the young cyclists in fulfilling their dreams. He also thanked Mootoo for recognizing the work of the club and wished him well in his activities. Roberts also used the opportunity to call on other business persons to come forward and assist the club. (Samuel Whyte)
