The post mortem conducted by Dr. Nehaul Singh at the Ezekiel Funeral Home on the body of Zaharadeen Rozan has revealed that the man died of blunt trauma to the head and brain haemorrhage.
The finding, according to police, is consistent with an epileptic seizure since Rozan had bite marks on his tongue which is associated with epilepsy.
Rozan was found dead in the lock-ups of the Parika Police Station, Wednesday morning.
According to the father of the dead man, Majeed Rozan, he is rejecting the post mortem report and intends to legally challenge it, since his sons never suffered from epilepsy.
Expressing surprise at the result of the post mortem, Mr. Rozan said that he is confident that his son’s death occurred within the confines of the lock-ups where he was brutalized.
After inspecting his son’s body at the morgue, he claimed that his son had marks about his body which were consistent with assault.
The elder Rozan who was a Rural Constable (RC) for over a decade said he intends to pursue justice for his son’s demise.
The grieving father is calling on Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee, and acting Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud to properly investigate the matter. He also plans to visit the Director of Public Prosecution, Shalimar Ali Hack.
Police had disclosed that Rozan was arrested and taken into custody at about 21:10hrs on Tuesday February 24, following a report of damage to property against him. The following day he was found alive but lying on the floor of the lock-ups.
He was then taken for medical treatment at the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations are being conducted by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).
