WIN highlights “inhumane conditions” of teachers’ quarters at Reg. 7 Village

(Kaieteur News) – The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party is calling on the Ministry of Education to repair and commission the teachers’ quarters at Kangaruma Village, Region Seven. The party, in a Facebook post, has described the state of the facility as “inhumane conditions”.
The party’s leader, Azruddin Mohamed and a few members of the party recently visited several communities in the region and engaged residents at Kangaruma and other locations.
In a brief statement addressing the conditions teachers are faced with at Kangaruma, WIN explained that despite completing the teachers’ quarters building at Kangaruma over a year ago, “it remains locked, uncommissioned, and empty.”
“In a community where teachers and their families are forced to live in old, cramped, and inadequate housing, it is disheartening to have a new facility sit idle to rot,” the political party said.
Providing images of the current situation there, WIN said it tells “a story of total abandonment.”
According to the party, the interior of the living quarters is falling apart, with ceilings caving in and walls cracking, while requests for a new school have gone unanswered for over two years.
“The government appears more focused on the glamorous photo opportunities than on actually utilizing these buildings. If a fancy ribbon-cutting ceremony is needed, we suggest they fly in their helicopters to Kangaruma and have their photo ops so that the teachers can occupy the facility,” WIN stated.
“The WIN movement is calling on the Ministry of Education to have the new teachers’ quarters at Kangaruma repaired and commissioned immediately,” the party further urged.
Attempts to contact Minister of Education Sonia Parag on Friday proved futile.
