Costa Rican fined for falsified travel document
A Costa Rican man was yesterday fined $30,000 after he admitted to making a false entry on a passenger declaration form at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), recently.
Osmari Jesus Peres Ramirez appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, yesterday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on January 23, last while Ramirez was departing Guyana he made a false declaration on a prescribed passenger declaration form.
According to the charge, he stated that he was a departing passenger with a Republic of Costa Rica Passport bearing the name, Pablo Andres Orlega Calederon, despite knowing same to be false.
Ramirez, who was assisted by a translator pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined. Should the Costa Rican man fail to pay the fine, he will spend the next six months in jail.
