Merely one week after adding the prestigious Banks DIH Cup to its arsenal, the Alpha football team continues to enjoy the status of best local unit and its coach, Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover, has earned plaudits from the pundits for his input.
Indeed, Dover’s contribution to the current status of Alpha is well documented but his thirst for knowledge coupled with his drive for excellence continues and Dover leaves Guyana next Tuesday for the United States of America to attend an educational event under the auspices of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in partnership with the World Football Academy.
When Kaieteur Sport contacted Mr. Dover yesterday afternoon he was ecstatic in anticipation of the experience before him. “This is indeed a great opportunity to enhance my coaching skills and I am extremely delighted to participate,” he said.
He noted that the forum would engage the brains of the top football nations and he intends to soak up as much information as possible for his benefit as well as his fellow coaches unable to attend.
“I plan to use the knowledge and ideas procured from this forum to enhance local football development,” added Mr. Dover.
Meanwhile, a website detailing the particulars of the convention informs that the attendees will have the opportunity to learn from Raymond Verheijen and the World Football Academy. Some of the topics will focus on Principles of Football Periodisation, Principles of Football Psychology and Principles of Football Tactics among others.
Mr. Dover is also grateful to members of the corporate community who have contributed towards his airfare, accommodation and other necessities. He said that most of the contributing businesses prefer anonymity. “Nonetheless, they know themselves and I’d wish to express profound gratitude to them for their generosity,” said Dover.
