The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is collaborating with the Guyana Geology and Mines
One of the mains that Port Kaituma residents had complained about.
Commission (GGMC) to rehabilitate the water service distribution system in sections of Port Kaituma along with other infrastructural works to be undertaken by GGMC.
GWI is responding to statements contained in the article titled ‘GWI mains cause flooding, damage to roadway – Port Kaituma residents’ which was published on Monday October 20, 2014.
According to GWI’s Public Relations Officer, Timothy Austin, the company’s investigations have concluded that the pipelines were exposed due to constant erosion of the soil as well as consistent grading of the roadways. ‘It is important to note that these pipelines have been in existence for in excess of 15 years and would have been disrupted due to constant changes of the roadways.’
Austin noted that the designs have already been undertaken jointly with GGMC and the rehabilitation works are scheduled to be executed within the next three months.
“GWI wishes to assure residents of Port Kaituma that the plan to rehabilitate the distribution system is a priority, as every effort will be made to improve on the current situation. The company will also be collaborating with the Regional Administration in the interest of resolving all challenges with the water distribution system.” Austin asserted.
Residents of Port Kaituma had complained about GWI’s infrastructural work and pipelines that needed to be placed deeper under the roadways since constant breakages and leakage have caused several roads to deteriorate rapidly.
