A man accused of choking his wife and threatening at knifepoint to kill her, was yesterday remanded to prison.
Oswell Andrews, who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, is alleged to have abused the woman on Sunday last at their Water Street, Georgetown residence.
When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty and asked the Chief Magistrate to consider offering him bail.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Michael Grant explained that the incident occurred around 15:30 hours that day as Andrews’ wife was going to borrow a hard brush from a neighbour. He said they had an argument and he choked the woman, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill her.
The Prosecution was interrupted by the man who claimed that they had been living together for eighteen years. Additionally, the woman submitted a medical to the court.
Grant stated that they had been living together and if bail was granted the accused would interfere with her. The Chief Magistrate heeded to the concerns of the Prosecution and Andrews was remanded to prison.
The case was transferred to the court of Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond and is set to be called for trial.
