The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) has extended congratulated Leon Johnson on making his test debut in the second match against Bangladesh in St. Lucia which West Indies won by 296 runs. Johnson who opened the batting scored 66 on the first day and 41 in the second innings.
The Georgetown Cricket Club is very proud of Leon, who has risen significantly after some excellent performances both at home and abroad.
The 27 year-old Johnson came through the club’s training programme and has been at the helm of the first division team for several years.
With his commitment and natural talent for the game, Johnson will surely become a truly first class West Indian cricketer. President of the club Lionel Jaikarran said, “Leon is following in the footsteps of previous GCC players, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Carl Hooper, Reon King , Neil McGarrell and Faoud Bacchus, to name a few, who have represented the oldest club in the Caribbean at the pinnacle of West Indian cricket.
The executives, members and staff of the Georgetown Cricket Club wish Johnson all the best in his cricketing career.”
