Guyanese chess players turned in a better performance and chalked up 4 valuable points when action in the 41st Chess Olympiad continued in Tromsø, Norway yesterday. Playing Burundi, the Guyanese players all won their respective games; Anthony Drayton defeated Ndikumana Y, while Ronuel Greenidge got past Ninninahazwe. Maria Varona Thomas and Haifeng Su won from Rwamavubi J and Ntagasigumwa respectively.
President of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), Irshad Mohammed was pleased with the turn around and feels that the players are now playing better games because they have asserted themselves into the competition. He is confident that they will go on to make an impression at the championship.
