Police investigators are questioning a male friend of missing St. Stanislaus College teacher, Nyozi Goodman, who disappeared without a trace from the National Sports Hall two Sundays ago.
A police source yesterday told this newspaper that they are “getting there” with the investigation regarding the disappearance of the 34-year-old teacher.
Goodman, of William Street, Kitty, was last seen with another teacher at the Sports Hall where she had taken a few of her students to participate in the Inter-Secondary School Basketball Championships. There are reports that the teacher told her students that she would be staying behind as she expected someone to pick her up and take her home. There has not been any news of her since that night.
In an interview with a senior police source, Kaieteur News was told that investigators are questioning several persons, including a friend of the woman who took her to the Sports Hall.
The source described Goodman’s friend who is reportedly a taxi driver as a “friend in the making.”
He said that they have received information that this individual took Goodman to her destination early that morning.
According to the police official, regarding whether this particular individual went back to the Sports Hall later that night to pick up the teacher is so far unknown. He added that there is some other “vital” information which the police are working with to locate the woman, but he declined to provide further details.
“We have people who keep up-to-date with the news, so we have to be a little careful with what we release to the media,” the source said.
Nestor Thompson, the missing teacher’s brother, said yesterday that his family would do whatever it takes to locate Goodman.
“What I know is that my sister didn’t just go away. Someone is responsible for her disappearance,” the distraught sibling said, adding that he still thinks his sister is alive and well.
Thompson had told Kaieteur News that he and his sister last spoke two Sundays ago and she informed him that she was going to the National Sports Hall. That was the last time he made contact with her.
“My mother called me from Linden and asked when last I heard from her and I told her (that it was) on Sunday (Two Sundays ago) and then she told me that people were calling her and telling her that they could not get on to my sister.”
He added that he immediately went to his sister’s home where he met with the landlord. He went to his sister’s room and noticed that everything was intact.
The brother related that family members have already contacted all of the woman’s friends who were known to the family, but none of them has any clue as to where she might be or who she might be with.
Investigations are ongoing.
