Vendor remanded for burgling police inspector’s house
A 38-year-old vendor was yesterday remanded by a city Magistrate for allegedly breaking into the house of a police inspector and making off with almost $400,000 in electronic items.
Devon Nurse of Fifth Street, Alberttown, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with breaking into Inspector Karen Kilkenny’s house and carting off her $395,000 Toshiba flat screen television set and a universal remote control.
To the allegation, he pleaded not guilty. He was unrepresented by legal counsel.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Deniro Jones revealed that it was the newly acquired fingerprinting system that landed the vendor before the courts to face a burglary charge.
Jones said that the Inspector and the accused are not affiliated with each other. He explained that Inspector Kilkenny ventured to bed and discovered the items missing the following morning.
The matter was reported and Nurse was arrested after the fingerprints lifted from the site matched his.
The Corporal emphasised that it was based on that evidence that the accused was charged with break and enter and larceny.
Jones offered several objections to bail, citing the serious nature and gravity of the offence. He said that the defendant also had several other matters before the courts.
Upholding the objections of the Prosecution, Nurse was remanded to prison. The case will be called again on July 14.
