…remanded pending probation report
A city Magistrate is set to rule in the case of a 17-year-old girl who, during her first court hearing, confessed to stealing a sum of cash from the proprietor of the beauty salon she would frequent.
Magistrate Faith McGusty, who presided over the matter, indicated that she will hand down her decision later this week after she receives a probation report for the accused teen.
She appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing a $140,000 from Talecia Vincent, on May 14, at Shondel’s Professional Hair Salon, Freeman Street, Georgetown.
To the charge, she pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Corporal Seon Blackman explained that the two are acquainted since the teen would normally style her hair and have her nails done at the beauty salon.
He said that about 11:30 hours on May 15, while at the salon, the teen noticed the victim placing portions of the cash in her handbag and in a drawer.
“Your Worship, this defendant asked the virtual complainant for a glass of water and she was left alone in the salon. When (the victim) returned, the defendant had left the premises.”
Blackman explained that Vincent made checks for the cash and discovered that it was missing.
The matter was reported. Subsequent investigations led to the teenager being arrested and charged.
The Magistrate stated that she will be placing the accused on remand pending a probation report. The case will be called again on June 16 for decision.
