Six mothers, all over the age of 70 years, were honoured yesterday by ranks of the A Division, Number Three Subdivision of the Guyana Police Force, which includes Alberttown, Kitty and Prashad Nagar Police Stations.
The ranks of the Subdivision pooled resources and purchased a wide variety of groceries that made up food hampers which were presented to the elderly mothers.

Centenarian Blackmore checks her hamper in the presence of (from left) Sgt. Webster, Sgt Simpson and ASP Griffith-Jacobis just after it was handed over to her.
The hampers were delivered to the individual homes of the beneficiaries by Assistant Superintendent Denise Griffith-Jacobis, Sergeant Alexis Webster, Sergeant Jean Simpson and a male representative of the Kitty Campbellville Crime Prevention Unit.
Those honoured were Dolly Blackmore, 102, Waveney Cadogan, 89, Dorothy Barnwell, 84, Anita Joseph, 80, Hycenith Cebhan, 72, and Mabel Sampson, 70.
All the honoured mothers reside in Kitty, except Blackmore, who is the eldest of the set. However, the fact that Blackmore is older than approximately 96 per cent of Guyana’s population it didn’t stop her from “giving a l’il wine” to show her appreciation. Blackmore will be celebrating her 103rd birthday later this month.
The centenarian, when presented with her hamper asked the ranks, “all this for me?” She said it will take her a far way. This was a sentiment that was echoed by all the other recipients.
Those that presented the hampers indicated that the initiative is in keeping with the objective of the Force to have a closer relationship with communities.
Kaieteur News understands that those who were honoured were handpicked with several factors being taken into consideration.
Sergeant Webster indicated that outreaches of this sort will be done on a regular basis. She said that plans are already in motion for Father’s Day treat.
