The Mayor and City Council has warned citizens against the “illegal” sale of Easter Holiday spots on the seawall by its Administration, stating that the sale of these locations is not authorized by the Council.
In a letter to the media, the agency said that its Administration has taken it upon itself to commence the sale of the holiday spots which the Council has not yet approved.
The release said that a letter was sent to the Council’s Chief Administrative Officer from Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green expressing concern over the “arbitrary” sale.
The letter read, “It has been brought to my attention that your office has begun the sale of spots to those persons desirous of doing business for Easter Monday, April 21, 2014. I am aware that the council did not grant any approval for this activity.
In fact, when this matter was discussed at the last Finance committee meeting, the chairman of that meeting advised the administration to justify the amount requested to do preparatory works and to activate the round robin system for council’s permission to carry out the activity.”
Chase- Green said that the administration failed to adhere to the instruction of the committee and proceeded to sell spots for the Easter Holiday.
“This is irregular and demonstrates the disregard and disrespect you have for the elected Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown.”
This alleged “arbitrary” sale of Easter Holiday spots comes a month after the “arbitrary” sale of Mashramani spots by Town Clerk Carol Sooba which caused several seasoned purchasers of Mashramani spots to pull out.
Big names such as Banks DIH, and other small scale vendors abandoned the City Council when spot prices were doubled and even tripled during this year’s event. The Council had slammed the Administration for its sale on the locations without the permission of the Mayor and Councilors. To this end, the Mayor and Councilors remain torn from its Administrator and staff, resulting in a continued provision of mediocre service to city dwellers.
