Albouystown mother complains of silence over CPA investigation
(Kaieteur News) – The mother of the schoolgirl who was dragged through the Stabroek bus park by officers of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) said that to date, authorities have not reached out to her about the status of the tribunal set up to investigate the matter.

Speaking with Kaieteur News on Thursday, Sheina Douglas expressed frustration over the incident, noting that she is fed up of being pushed around and now prefers to remain silent and take matters into her own hands. Subject minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud could not be reached for comment yesterday.
The two social workers were suspended after a video surfaced on Facebook early last month showing them dragging the schoolgirl through the park. Based on the footage, the welfare officers could be seen forcefully pulling the uniformed student by her hands and hair while she kicked and screamed.
Minister Persaud had taken to social media to condemn the attack, noting that disciplinary action was taken. “An appalling video of a schoolchild being dragged by two officers of the Child Protection Agency has been brought to my attention,” she said, adding, “They have been suspended with immediate effect and the police has been called in to take action. They will be held accountable for their conduct which runs counter to the values and operational procedures of the Child Protection Agency.”
The CPA initiated its own internal investigation, working along with the police to determine whether criminal charges should be pursued. The incident has also revived discussions about the training of welfare officers and the procedures they follow when interacting with minors in public settings.
“No minister never call me; nobody never called me and I’m not calling nobody…them deh in government and ain’t got time with poor people, but I will show them that poor people desperate when it comes to their children,” the mother expressed.
