A man who was acquitted of murder two years ago was shot and killed early Wednesday morning. Dead is 29-year-old Rayburn Harvey of Non Pareil Street, Albouystown.
Kaieteur News was told that the shooting happened in the vicinity of the “Island” in North East La Penitence shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Harvey died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The dead man’s mother, Janice Gittens, told Kaieteur News that she received the message shortly after midnight.
The woman told Kaieteur News that she was told that her son was at a “wake” in RasVille, when he received a telephone call. Gittens said that her son left and was in the vicinity of the “Island” when a lone gunman opened fire at him. Harvey was rushed to the GPHC and died while receiving medical attention.
Harvey was freed of a murder almost two years ago in the High Court. He was accused of gunning down Samantha Belle on March 18, 2006 on Vlissengen Road in the vicinity of St. Sidwell’s School.
He was charged with robbery underarms earlier this year and was placed on a million-dollar bail. That matter was still pending. Relatives yesterday said that Harvey was continuously threatened by a particular family in Albouystown. Investigations into the shooting are continuing.
