After a lull following the completion of the first leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) which was held in Jamaica, local motor racers will now turn their attention to the upcoming September 8 Meet, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to a source close to the fraternity, the local speedsters will be aiming to ensure that their respective machines are in tip top shape ahead of the final leg of the CMRC which is scheduled to be staged later this year in Guyana.
The source added that most of the country’s top drivers and riders in all the categories are expected to participate in the Meet which is also anticipated to be graced by the presence of competitors from the USA, Canada and Suriname.
Among those slated to compete in the Group 4 are Andrew King, Mark Vieira, Kevin Jeffrey, Irfaan Kalamadeen, Paul Vieira, Keith Evelyn and Rupie Shewjattan, while in the Group 3 category the likes of Ryan Rahaman, Kamal Seebarran, Raj Boodhoo and Ravi Singh will do battle for top honours.
The Group 2B has been providing much excitement recently and in this Meet another round of exhilarating action is anticipated with Danny Persaud, Afraz Allie, Syed Hassan, Oliver Tjin Liep Shie, Shairaz Roshandin and John Joseph expected to lock horns.
The Group 2A is no exception when it comes to providing nerve tingling thrills as Aaron Bethune, Jad Rahaman, Chet Singh, Harold Hopkinson and the Ali brothers Roshan and Mohamed go head to head in their long standing rivalry.
Then there is the Go-karts division and this too promises entertainment from the start with the young guns of Matthew Vieira, Stanley Ming Jnr, Nikhil Seereeram, Denzel Hopkinson and Steffan Jeffrey pitted against the experienced Stanley Ming Snr, Shane Ally, Alex Fiedtkou, Dylan Fields and Jerry Max Gouveia.
The Superbikers are always a joy to watch and even though Stephen Vieira has been the lone standout for sometime at the local and regional levels, many in the sport believe that the other competitors are slowly, but surely catching him up.
Young Seereeram has been improving all the while and he should provide a stern test for Vieira, while Carlos Rodrigues is always a threat to the dominance of Vieira.
Joel Neblett and Carey Griffith have both improved their skills immensely and they too could crash the party, while Maurice Menezes and Ravi Singh should not be written off.
The day promises to be loaded with action and fans are being urged to book the date of the Meet as a must be there.
