Tiger Creek Bridge closed to heavy-duty machinery
Heavy-duty machinery has been temporarily prohibited from traversing the Brian Sucre Junction to Mahdia. The contractor, Mekdeci Machinery and Construction, is mobilizing resources to commence reconstruction of the Tiger Creek Bridge, which is about four miles from Brian Sucre Junction going in to Mahdia.

This is according to Niem Mohammed, Hinterland Roads Engineer of the Public Works Ministry, who related that by yesterday afternoon the contractor’s equipment would have been mobilized at the site.
The engineer said that the contractor is currently procuring logs for the reconstruction of the structure. The works are being funded by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.
According to Mark Crawford, Region Eight Chairman, the bridge has been in a deplorable state for quite a while. He added that the Ministry of Public Works is responsible for repairing the structure and has been slothful in responding to its responsibility.
Crawford emphasized that if the bridge is not repaired in a timely manner it could collapse. The foundation has washed away and the beams are rotten.
“We have no other choice than to close the bridge. It will inconvenience a lot of people,” Crawford noted.
