Bonuses in store as plans continues for Port Mourant/Jumbo Jet horserace meet…Over $8M at stake
Despite the inclement weather the organisers of the Port Mourant Turf Club/Jumbo Jet Horserace Meet are throwing caution to the wind and are continuing with plans for the event set for Sunday June 16 at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
The organisers are also working out a palatable Father’s day package for turfites who are expected to throng the venue in their thousands come race day. Among the goodies agreed to so far are free parking for vehicles, free programmes, a reduction in the entrance fee to 10% instead of 12%, no reduction in prize monies regardless of how few the entries are in the respective races and a reduction of the entrance fee to the ground to only $1,000.
The organisers are also looking at a few other incentives which will be announced shortly all aimed at helping to make patrons feel special on the day.
Over $8M is at stake for the ‘sport of kings’ with eight races carded for the day. The feature event is the C & Lower race over a distance of 1600M with the winner set to run away with $1M and trophy.
The co-feature is for three year old horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies and will see the animals racing over a distance of 1400M for a winning pocket of $500,000 and trophy.
The E & Lower 1400M event also has an attractive prize of $500,000 and trophy at stake.
Then there is an event for G & Lower animals over a distance of 1200M for a pole position taking of $400,000 and trophy up for grabs.
There is another event for Three year old horses, this time those bred and born in Guyana over 1200M for an encouraging winners money of $300,000 and trophy.
There is a race for two year old animals that it is envisaged will be running for the first time over a distance of 600M for a winner’s money of $300,000 and trophy.
The ‘I’ & Lower gallop is also over 1200M for a first prize of $250,000 and trophy.
There is the event for J and Lower horses also over 1200M for a winning purse of $200,000 and trophy.
No late entries will be entertained and horses are subjected to reclassification before the start of the event. The events will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
The top individual performers, including top Jockey and stable will receive accolades compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
