Police Progressive Youth Club (PPYC) amassed 366 points to retain the Digicel National Under-23 Games against Running Brave Athletic Club (221), Guyana Defence Force Track Club (136), Enheights (Combination of Ruralities and Enmore, 48), Upper Demerara Schools (47) and Royal Youth Movement (4) yesterday at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
The ground which was waterlogged earlier in the day by the high tides saw PPYC merging jumper and sprinter, Alita ‘Logga Logga’ Moore blasting out of the blocks in the female 100m clocking 12.2 seconds to dust her team mate Tiffany Carto and RBAC Neisa Allen. The victory saw Carto and Allen turning in times of 12.5 seconds and 12.8 seconds respectively.
Chavez Ageday won the male 100m dash in 10.7 seconds to leave Winston Ceasar in second in 10.9 seconds, Akeem Stewart was third in 11.2 seconds.
The excitement continued in the boys U-23 200m when National Junior 200m champ, Elton Bollers (RYM) of the University of Guyana failed to repeat another victory in the event. Stephan James stamped his authority and redeemed himself in the event in 21.4 seconds, Enheights Chavez Ageday was second in 21.6 seconds followed by GDF’s Akeem Stewart 21.9 seconds.
James did not settle for anything less than first in the 400m after taking charge of the race. The talented junior athlete registered 49.6 seconds ahead of Shawn Semple’s 49.9 seconds, Upper Dem’s Bevon Noble was third in 50.3 seconds.
After facing an upset in the 100m, Allen returned to state her position in the 200m to clock 25 seconds to take the top spot on the podium, Carto settled for another second for the day in 25.2 seconds. Allen’s club mate, Natrena Hooper was third in 25.6 seconds. Allen was also the winner in the female’s 400m in 59 seconds.
Kevin Bayley and Jevina Straker were equally impressive in the 800m and 1500m against their opponents. Bayley who is presently undefeated in the 800m and 1500m clocked 1:59.9 seconds in the 800m ahead of Tyshon Bentick (2:01.8 seconds) and Ornesto Thomas (2:02.2 seconds) and 4:11.20 seconds in the 1500m ahead of Bentick and Upper Dem’s Nathaniel ‘Brother’ Giddings 4:14.4 seconds.
Giddings was able to convert from third place in the 1500m to first in the 5000m in 16:46.10 head of Bayley’s 17:32.60.
Straker turned in 2:22.20, 5:10.5 and 11:34.0 in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m respectively ahead of Janelle Jonas (2:23.50) who was second in the 800m and Adama Roberts (5:13.40) who was second in the 1500m.
Moore, who was successful on the track, leaped to 5m22cm in the female’s long jump ahead of her club mates Juanita Hooper and Tracy Moses leaps of 5m09cm and 4m93cm respectively.
Juanita Hooper’s 11m26cm was narrowly edged out in the female’s triple jump when Running Brave’s Natrena Hooper final and best leap of 11m27cm placed her on top, Moore was third with 11m22cm.
Winston Ceasar dominated in the long jump with his best leap of 6m57, PPYC Tevin Garraway 6m53cm was second, while Kevin Tucker 6m13cm leap was third.
Maurice Gibson took the male’s triple with his best leap of 12m55cm to leave PPYC’s Marvin Tinnis (12m31cm), Tucker (12m25cm) and Carlwyn Collins (11m44cm) to battle in the pit.
Troy Lewis took a triple win in the Shot Put, Discus and Javelin Throw in 10m42cm, 33m13cm and 50m43cm respectively.
Cindy Fraser (6m79cm), Lisa Bowman (22m56cm) and Tandica Burgess (16m91cm) won the Shot Put, Discus and Javelin respectively.
